I need to replace my old disposal unit that service my kitchen sink.?
Can you please guide me as to the steps and procedures i need to take in removing the old one and then installing the new disposal unit. The new one will be the same 1/2 HP as the old existing one. Guide me please.

Make sure the power is off at the breaker.
detach the plumbing (drain)
unscrew the collar at the sink drain
remove the wiring cover
remove the wiring
reverse to reinstall new disposal.
make sure black wire is connected to brass contact, whit to silver contact, green or bare to case.
First unplug the old unit. It it’s hardwired, turn off the breaker or remove the fuse. Disconnect the drain line under the sink. If your dishwasher drains into the garbage disposal, disconnect that line, too. Now, get under the sink and remove the disposal by turning the whole assembly counterclockwise (lefty loosey) until it comes off. It’s HEAVY in that position so be careful. You have to decide whether to replace the mounting bracket or not. I didn’t on my last replacement. Now, if your dishwasher drains into the disposal you have to knock out the plug in the hole designed for it. You can do this with a hammer and punch or hammer and screwdriver. Remove the cover where the wiring connects to your old disposal and disconnect the wires. Remove the cover on your new unit and connect them the same way. From this point, reverse the directions above and you’re done. Good luck.
Follow D M and Jim’s suggestions, plus the clear installation directions that come with the new unit.
Two additional suggestions:1) Buy a 3/4 horsepower unit. You’ll like it better than the 1/2 hp model. 2) you can use your car jack under the sink to lift the disposal when you make the connection to the mounting bracket. Finally, as Jim S suggested, don’t forget to knock out the plug if you are connecting your dishwasher to the disposal. I forgot this and had to re-do half my work.
