First off. good job in strating early! And yes my sister bought her 1 year old that kitchen and she LOVES it, my niece is always playing in there. LeapFrog toys are also a really good thing to get. My son has a Zebra thing that he loves, it’s a bounce and spin zebra he can sit and bounce on. Theyhave them at wal-mart

Definitely save your money. A few things like what you’ve already bought her will be fine. Although she won’t care about the clothes. She will also get presents from other people – I usually put a few of our things “away” after Christmas, and brought them out a few months later when we needed something new and exciting. The kitchen would be good just make sure no small pieces of play food or she might put them in her mouth. Also a sorting toy would be good – shape sorter, like circles, triangles, etc. into a box. And one of those toys where you put the ball at the top, bang it with a hammer, and watch it roll down – kids love those.

Anything by LeapFrog. They have some TREMENDOUS products out on the market for kids. Their product line has grown since I had my 2 (ages 12 & 9-almost 10). If you go to Wal-Mart, I am sure that you will be able to find ample educational toys for your little ones. And I commend you for starting to shop early. I, myself, also start shopping early EVERY year so that we won’t feel the crunch closer to Christmas. Our youngest was also born in December, so I know what that is like.

I wouldn’t continue buying much more. You bought her plenty, and it is true, she is very young. You may as well save your money while you can. She will get a ton of gifts from everyone, grandparents especially.

flattenme.com has books that put your child’s face and name in the story. I ordered one for my little girl and she loved it! They did an amazing job. I think they are a little pricey, but it is something she can keep forever and it spark her interest in reading at an early age.

You have a terrific start already. If you’re looking for one more big ticket item, try this:

We bought that for my daughter her first Christmas (she was 13 months) and she has played with it since. I think it goes to age 3. She still loves it like it was brand new. :)

Good luck and kudos for having started your shopping already!

I think you’ve already gotten plenty. You could perhaps add a few small stocking stuffer items, then call it done. When my oldest was a baby I went nuts on her Christmas gifts at about the same age. Quite simply, she was overwhelmed by it all and didn’t appear to be really excited about any of it. She had more fun playing with the paper and boxes. I also had a tendency to overindulge her by making sure that she had the latest *whatever* to the point that she had so much she didn’t know where to turn next. I continued this for a few years and began to realize that she really had no respect for anything she had and was becoming quite the demanding brat. By the time I recognized this her sister had come along and was becoming the same way. At that point I backed way off on everything and began keeping birthday and holiday gifts to a minimum. The difference this made was amazing. They became more respectful of what they did have and also became less demanding. Now they are 10 and 12 and are content to receive one “big” gift and a few smaller things at Christmas. If I can recommend anything at all it is to start this now and avoid some of the things that I ran into. I know it’s difficult because we all want to make holidays extra special for our children. I truly believe now, though, that less is really more when it comes to this.

OK, honestly, I went totally out for my daugher’s first christmas! WHAT A DOWNER!!! She totally went for all the boxes, could have cared less about the cool toys I bought her. Keep it simple! Things that make lots of noise, and move around are fun, but get on Mommy and Daddy’s nerves before bedtime Christmas night! My girls were 3 or 4yrs old before the whole, unwrapping lots of things, was fun. And even then, i would have been better off going to the dollar store and buying a bunch of little things, than the few big things I bought them!

Good luck! You are just getting started!!!

get her a baby doll and stroller. i bought one for one of my grand daughter’s and she loved it. little girls like to be like mama.

  • *Princess*:

You should buy the fake kitchen, you should also buy her one of the dress up kits. Go to walmart.com and go to toys and video games. Then scroll down and you shall see the shop by age. When you see that, click the 12 to 24 months, and you can find gifts there too. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!!!

Your kitchen idea is great…i got my daughter a kitchen when she was almost 2 and we still have it she is almost 9 and still occasionally plays with it with her younger siblings. A brilliant buy.
Wooden puzzles are good- the simple kind- as between 18 and 24 mths they tend to get ‘good’ at doing these, and lacing cards etc
A funky footsteps mat (the kind that makes noise) would probably be loved

my daughter also enjoyed the traditional jack in the box and spinning tops at that age- both which your new baby will soon be able to use too!
A bouncing tigger or other electronic TV type toy is normally greated with great pleasure and perhaps a doll as you are having a baby she will really enjoy doing things to ‘her baby’ while you do things with ‘your baby’lol.
It will be a magical christmas in your house this year with your toddler & new son…your little girl will really be able to get pleasure out of your decorations & helping you bake and showing off her new sibling to the relatives!

Christmas for pre-toddler is hard. Honestly they really like sounds and noises. I got my son toys that he wouldn’t grow out of right away but as he got older he still plays with them and finds other uses for them. Ex. he watches Mickey Mouse club house and the little Einsteins and what we got him was instruments, and he likes hitting them and hearing the sounds and music and now he plays along with the shows and interacts with what they are doing. Toys that has multi-uses like 3n1 rock n ride, pianos that can be used for a walker. stuff like that really goes far for pre-toddlers. Hope this helps:)

My daughter is 18 months old, and I think I am going to get her a play kitchen, too. It is a great gift for this age. Your daughter will know what it is especially if she already likes being in the kitchen.

Here are some ideas of things that my 18 month old loves to play with:
-Baby dolls and play stroller. She is always putting the doll in the stroller and pushing her around the house. She also pretends to take care of the baby.
-A play phone, play purse, etc. Anything where she can make believe she is like mommy.
-Books!!! Ones with flaps and moving parts are great.
    -Toys from Little People.
-Parents Magazine Bee Bop Band. Loves to make music.
    -Building blocks.
-Anything she can ride or climb on ie: rocking horse, ride-on toys w/music.

I hope this gives you some ideas. I think the play kitchen is a great idea. You can also get her some fake play food to go with it. Good luck .
